Legacy Park Nature Walk
for DeKalb History Center members

Join fellow members of the DeKalb History Center on July 11 as we explore the nature and land conservation of Legacy Park, a 77-acre property in Decatur, GA with a 140-year history.  The land began as the Decatur Orphan’s Home in 1877, operated by the United Methodist Church, and was strategically sold to the City of Decatur in 2017. A 22-ac conservation easement at the rear of the property protects a pond and wetlands with beaver activity and mature forests undergoing restoration by Trees Atlanta.

Jane's Walk 2026
Fostering a Dynamic Community

Learn more about the free educational walking tour I led on May 3, 2026 at the historic Legacy Park in Decatur, GA, in honor of urbanist Jane Jacobs and in partnership with the Museum of Design Atlanta. The 1.3 mile route through the former United Methodist Children's Home explored the site's history and the recent transformation into a regional park, providing introduction to the wealth of non-profits, recreation opportunities, affordable housing and environmental initiatives.

Jane's Walk 2025
Between Two Creeks

Learn more about the educational walking tour I led in May 2025 in the historic Atlanta neighborhood of Kirkwood, in honor of urbanist Jane Jacobs and in partnership with the Museum of Design Atlanta. The two-mile circuit between an urban farm and forest gave insight into local history, sustainable living, and community engagement.
